HTC's new 5-inch Butterfly S phone takes wing
The Taiwanese handset maker unveils the Butterfly S smartphone, which comes with a 5-inch display and features from the HTC One.
HTC has unveiled the Butterfly S at a press conference close to Taipei.
The electronics maker's latest flagship model has now officially launched in Taiwan. The HTC Butterfly S,
an updated model based on the original 1080p Butterfly smartphone,
comes with a 5-inch, 1080p Super LCD 3 display which is capable of
supporting a 440ppi resolution on scratch-resistant glass.
The Butterfly S is equipped with a 2.1-megapixel camera for video calls
in addition to a 4-megapixel UltraPixel camera on the back which
supports HTC Zoe, software that organizes snapshots into 30-second
movies.
Front-facing BoomSound stereo speakers come loaded with HTC's Beats Audio.
The Chinese branch of Engadget reports
that the HTC Butterfly S will retail in Taiwan for NT$22,900 ($767). In
collaboration with carrier China Telecom, the smartphone will
reportedly be sold from July in grey, white and red versions, although
pricing and availability in other regions has not been confirmed.
The announcement comes on the heels of HTC's Desire 200 reveal.
That low-end smartphone comes with a 3.5-inch display, comes equipped
with a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 processor and 4GB of on-board memory
-- 512MB of which as available storage space -- and is able to run on 3G
networks. Pricing is yet to be announced.
