iPhone 5S release delayed, according to analysts

Analyst says manufacturing issues may push back its launch – but iPads, iMacs and the plastic iPhone may still arrive on time.

One analyst has predicted that the iPhone 5S, Apple’s upcoming flagship smartphone, will be delayed by a few weeks due to manufacturing difficulties.

AppleInsider has got its paws on a research note from KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo, who says production of several components for the iPhone 5S is undergoing setbacks means that it will now be launched in late September rather than early in the month, and that it will be available in shorter supply than Apple would like.

Other products on schedule

The analyst however said that he expects the long-rumoured cheaper plastic iPhone to launch in early September at a price in the region of US$450 to $550. He also believes Apple will launch new iMacs and Retina MacBook Pros equipped with Intel Haswell chips and a new 9.7in iPad.

And what of a Retina display-equipped iPad Mini? Kuo thinks that won’t come along until next year due to power efficiency issues which Apple needs to solve. He does think a cut-price iPad Mini with an A7 chip may be launched, however.
