Microsoft recently announced that it managed to help ship over 3 million Xbox One consoles to customers’ homes, this marked 3 million units sales from the launch of the console to the end of year 2013. This figure looked impressive until Sony revealed the PlayStation 4 sales figure.

Sony, in response to Xbox One sales figures, announced that it has sold over 4.2 million PlayStation 4 consoles world wide since the launch of the console in November 2013 to December 28th, 2014. The announcement was made by the CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, Andrew House, who took a moment on Sony’s stage at CES 2014 to reveal the sales figure of PlayStation 4 console of the year 2013.
“The momentum of the PS4 system keeps getting stronger and we couldn’t be more thrilled gamers worldwide are enjoying the incredibly immersive gaming experiences along with deep social capabilities and entertainment provided by our network,” Andrew House said regarding the console sales in a prepared statement. . “After a remarkable launch, we look forward to bringing even more exciting content and continuing to explore the power of the PS4 system by adding new features and services, including PlayStation Now, in 2014.”

PlayStation 4 is maintaining the first position on consoles’ sales charts since its launch, despite many struggles, Microsoft could not manage to raise the Xbox One sales higher than the PlayStation 4. Many factors contributed in the low sales of Xbox One, many of which were Microsoft’s own mistakes. The company’s best bet to raise the Xbox One sales now is to release more juicy exclusives, and meanwhile Sony can celebrate the joy.
